Again, the very foundation that made United States of America a great nation is being challenged – American values.
Listen, we all can agree that solving the Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo) situation is not an easy task. As a matter of fact, it is a rather daunting and arduous task, that while trying to solve without seeking the face of God, will only lead to catastrophe and possibly a grave National Security threat. This is truly burdensome. This is why wisdom is desperately needed.
You know, it is said that, if you want to see the true measure of a man back him into a corner, take him out of his comfort zone, challenge his civil liberties, and threaten the security of his family (dear I say his nation), and then you will see his true character.
Since 9-11 many attempts has been made to figure out how to prevent this type of atrocity from taking place on American soil again. It first started with the so called “Weapons of Mass Destruction” or the lack thereof as was evident by the lack of discovery of these WMD’s. However, due to the zeal of men and the desire of making someone pay for our misery and for taking the precious lives of our fellowmen and women in the 9-11 attacks, we needed someone to answer for all of this.
The rule of law states that, you are innocent until proven guilty. Maybe this only applies to those who are not considered terrorists. Listen, I am not a human rights activist, but a ‘do what is right, in righteousness – activist’. I say that this is a double standard. I don’t think one should compromised their core values in order to feel some sense of satisfaction of the achievement of vengeance. Yes, I believe that you should defend yourself from the vulnerability of an offense being repeated and put preventative measures in place to cut off evil as the one that took place on 9-11 from happening again. Also I believe that the offender of the law should be brought to justice and answer for his actions, and be reward the full measure of the law.
However, we must not devoid our personal moral standards, the moral standard of the nation, to gain gratification and to be looked upon as a hero. We must not compromise on this.
President Obama, if I can say one (or more) thing to you it would be, learn from the mistakes of your predecessors [past Presidents]. On this Gitmo issue, it is imperative that you avoid the mistake of compromising the rule of law, your personal convictions, and the convictions of the majority of Americans, just to please others or for political gain, as history and God will be your true judge. Also, after you’ve listen to the advice of your counselors and advisers, take time to pray for wisdom. The reason why this is important is because mankind in all of our wisdom and intellect, are in the foundation of our hearts – corrupt. True wisdom is from God, and God alone. I listened to your speech yesterday (as noted in the video above) and I was a bit alarmed in your choice of words, namely, the hint of ‘Indefinite Detention’ of some of the Gitmo detainees. Also the message you sent to the country, especially to our young people, that for the terrorists, a different set of rules apply. God calls sin – sin. The man that murdered (in a premeditated case) the store clerk is just as guilty as the terrorist that attacked on 9-11. Therefore, the law should be their judge and where the law seems to be inadequate or fall short, God, ultimately, will grant them their ‘Just Reward’ for the shedding of blood.
Here some words from the word of God for consideration:
“…men ought always to pray, and faint not.” (Luke 18:1)
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom 12:21)
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psa 18:2)
“This God–his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” (Psa 18:30)
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psa 20:7)
